Coach parties are welcome to attend the Dickensian Festival. We do not make a charge but we ask all organisers to contact us in advance to let us know their travel movements so that we can try to keep congestion to a minimum and plan sufficient parking spaces in advance.

The town is an ancient market town with an old-fashioned layout of narrow streets which are not designed for modern traffic needs and certainly gets very congested during any festival event in town. We ask all coaches to avoid turning into the one way system as there are always many cars trying to find spaces in regular car parks which are already full, and a number of slow moving horse drawn vehicles.

Coaches must approach town on the A590 trunk road (M6 junction 36 to Barrow) and turn into County Square which is the main loading and unloading zone.  The turning is at the main traffic-light controlled cross roads at the centre of town. The imposing red sandstone building which houses Barclays Bank stands on the corner and you will see several signs indicating 'COACH ARRIVAL POINT'.

County Square has space for 5 or 6 coaches at a time to unload and from there you will be shown or escorted to the nearest parking area, up to quarter of a mile away. Return for loading is to the same area.

Most coaches will be met by one of our team who will be on hand to answer questions and try and solve any problems. Toilets, a tea room, programmes, maps and the Tourist Information Office are in the Coronation Hall which is situated in County Square, and there is a second tearoom in the Old Library opposite (Mrs Bumbles Tea Room).  These services will be available when you arrive and provide a waiting point for your party prior to departure.
